1212 N Lake Shore Drive
The 1212 Lake Shore Drive Condominium contains 35 floors. The first four floors contain the lobbies, valet shop/receiving room, garage and lockers; the 35th floor contains a recreation center and meeting room, a pool and fitness room. All of these facilities are owned by the association, although the garage and the valet shop/receiving room are operated by professionals under contract with the association.
Residents live in one of two apartment towers: North and South. In each tower, three apartments occupy the fifth through thirty-fourth floors.
The building’s architects created a modern, sleek structure. Twin towers of architectural concrete and tinted glass rest on a plinth faced with imperial black Canadian granite. The entrance to the building is trimmed in bronze and sheltered by a cantilevered porte-cochere between two free standing enclosed granite piers.
The lobbies unite both traditional and modern design concepts and blend warm woods with granite and textured stones. The outer lobby is finished in polished black granite; the inner lobby is finished in a rare grained English oak set against shale stone, a delicately textured stone actually composed of fossilized shells, sea horses and miniature crustacean from prehistoric times.
The 35th floor recreation center features a 60 by 20 foot year-round swimming pool lit by skylights and surrounded by a ceramic tile pool deck and insulated glass outer walls. The interior walls are of imported travertine marble with English oak accents. Nearby are separate toilet, shower and changing facilities for men and women. These rooms also contain fitness equipment.
A fully equipped fitness center is located adjacent to the swimming pool. The remainder of the recreation center includes two sundecks and a large hospitality room with kitchen facilities. The 35th floor Hospitality room is used for our annual meeting, Board of Managers meetings, building social events, unit owner private functions, and quiet sitting area.
